Braided Gold Chain Necklace

Statement necklaces have been a huge hit these past seasons and I think they're here to stay.  I love wearing them over just a plain white T-shirt and jeans, making my look a bit more put together and well thought of.  They say that braids will be the next big thing in the year 2014 (well at least for hairstyles), so I decided to make a super easy and super quick DIY.
Braided Gold Chain Necklace

You will need the following:
1.  Gold chain
2.  Crochet thread (you can also use embroidery floss or yarn)
3.  Crochet hook
4.  Large safety pin

First up, measure your neck to get necklace length.
Cut your chain to desired length then get your thread and cut a good amount of strings to desired length.
Here, I made about 24 pieces of 24-inch strings.
Gather your strings together then find the middle to make two sets of 12-inch  strings tie a knot at the middle.

Separate the two sets of strings and insert the first one onto the chain.

Then, you are going to be twisting the strings, bringing the right strand to the left strand
and then going through the chain.

Use your crochet hook to help your strings go through the chain.

Basically, you are doing a rope braid, but every time you go to the chain side, you go through one chain link,
then twist the strands then go through the other chain link below.

Once you've reached desired length, tie a knot to secure your braid.  Cut off excess strings.

Add in your necklace lock or clasp.  Since I don't have one available,
I'm using this large gold safety pin to secure my necklace.
Super easy! :)

Have a great day everyone!
