Good morning loves! I bought a new plant from the market yesterday. I wanted to start gardening again but afraid I will not be able to care for them as I have absolutely so little time in my hands. Maybe I will someday but for now, I would have to settle for small indoor plants that I could easily care for. This interesting succulent definitely caught my eye. I love how its leaves form a flower-like pattern. After spending some time Googling, I found out that its name is Echeveria halbingeri (according to the international crassulaceae network).
Here are the things I used for this very simple project:
1. Crushed white marbles
2. A small bowl
3. Rocks
4. The echeveria plant
5. A small plate
First thing I did was I chose a bowl that would fit my plant. I chose one that is a little larger to make room for the growth of the plant. According to this site, planting echeveria in a container that is too large could retain lots of moisture which would not be good for this kind of plant that are used to dry climates, i.e., deserts from which they are usually found.
Next, I went ahead and placed some rocks at the bottom of the bowl. This would help with the drainage as I am not going to be putting a hole on my bowl. A thick layer of rocks is enough for proper drainage so that the roots would not be sitting on wet soil.
Next, I added a thin layer of crushed marbles just enough to cover my layer of large rocks.
Next, I removed the plant from its plastic container then soaked it in a separate bowl of water then teased the roots a bit so that the roots can hang freely to avoid forming a tangle of root ball.
I placed the plant at the center of the bowl together with the soil that
came with it then covered it with another layer of white marbles. This is how it looked like after. I watered it just enough to wet the leaves and the soil and rocks underneath.
This would now be placed on my working table just beside our bedroom window :) It would be the perfect spot for abundant morning sunlight.
Hope you liked my little project today :)
Til next time!

DeleteA great project. I used to love flowers when I was a teenager. I still love them, but I wouldn't have any in my house as I don't want any extra work. I have a fish tank and I am also trying to get rid of it as I am no prepared to spend any time cleaning it… Quite sad when life becomes so busy that you need to ditch everything just to get a few extra minutes of sleep.. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your wonderful comment on my blog. It's such an honour for me to be compared to Gwen Stefani!!! She is amazing and she has amazing style!
