Soothing Metabolism-Boosting Drink

I love drinking tea, sometimes more than taking coffee.  I must admit I had an acquired taste for it.  I was forced to take it at first because of the endless health benefits.  I found about this drink on the Dr. Oz a decided to give it a try.  Now, it has become a routine.  I love the soothing effects of ginger (like when you drink salabat).

Some of the health benefits of Ginger include:
* Ginger fights cancer.  It has been shown to help treatment including ovarian cancer.  Research proves that ginger can not only eliminate cancer cells but the cells can actually kill and attack themselves!

* Ginger helps with irritable bowel syndrome.  Ginger helps relieve symptoms of the condition.  It has a calming effect on the bowels and digestive system.

* Ginger protects against Alzheimer's.  Research shows that ginger helps in preserving and slowing down loss of brain cells keeping your memory intact.

Ginger stimulates appetite.  When your stomach does not produce enough stomach acid, ginger can get your digestive juices revved up so you are able to digest your meal better, preventing food from rotting inside your stomach.

* Ginger helps with weight loss.  Oh! This one's my favorite.  It may be the one and only reason why I drink ginger and green tea (LOL!).  Ginger, like green tea, acts as a fat burner helping you shed pounds.

* Ginger relieves tired muscles.  Ginger works best on the muscle tiredness you get after weight training.  So ginger does work best after exercise.  It would help your muscles recover better.

Ginger manages glucose levels.  Research suggests that ginger and help keep blood glucose levels in check.  Having hypoglycemia?  Taking ginger might do the trick.
(more here!)

Green Tea, on the other hand, several health benefits.  It has been regarded as the ultimate weight loss drink.  I do believe this because when I was trying to lose some weight, I was drinking green tea religiously and when I exercise, not only do I have more energy but I sweat a lot more, which means I am burning more calories right?  I once lost 25 pounds with a 1800-calorie diet, a home video exercise program, and drinking green tea :)

For this drink, you will only need two ingredients:
1.  Roughly chopped fresh ginger.
2.  Green tea.

Steep it for 5 to minutes.  Remember that steeping longer will make your drink much stronger.  Dr. Oz suggests steeping it for I think 15 minutes! Wow! That's a strong tea.  But he suggests putting some crushed ice on it which I think will help dilute the mixture.  You can also put some honey or lemon or even calamansi if you're not used to the taste of green tea and ginger.Soothing Metabolism-Boosting Drink
Now drink your way to a slimmer and sexier you! Bottoms up!

  3. hi angel! I was surprised with the health benefits you mentioned here. how many cups did you consume until you were already okay with the taste? my grandmother once asked me to try salabat and even though i am into singing, i didn't end up having this in my routine because of how it tastes :(

    1. try diluting it first with hot water. then gradually decrease the hot water. you'll get used to the taste. brushing your teeth afterwards also helps if you don't like the after taste ;) adding honey or stevia (0 calories) will also do the trick. it took me at least a month to appreciate the taste of green tea ;) i now drink at least a big mug of tea once a day, but i read somewhere that it will take 8 cups to see the full effect (of weight loss). i don't do that because of the caffeine. one big mug or three cups works for me. good luck sis!

  6. I am a big green tea drinker - every night before sleeping I always drink one cup :) I would do this - the ginger bit - but I absolutely abhor ginger. I was force fed with this when I was little so now, I can't ever get on with the taste. Super nice tip, though (for those who dont care for the ginger taste).

  7. Not really a huge fan of ginger and as much as I wanted to try this, I think I could not tolerate the taste of it.

    1. don't steep it too long for a slight whiff of ginger, but that beats the purpose of drinking it i think :( too bad you can't handle ginger. adding honey or stevia might help though ;) goodluck!
