Crispy Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard Sauce

Ready for another super easy and super yummy recipe?  I've got another one for you.  I'm a big fan of McDonald's McNuggets and I really miss their honey and mustard dip which is only available occasionally.  I think the last time I ordered nuggets with honey mustard sauce was back when they were promoting Shrek.  I remembered that clearly because they colored the sauce neon green.  The husband came up with the idea of recreating the recipe and I really loved it.  I like it more now than the ones from McDonald's.  If you love this chicken nuggets and want to know how simple it is to make at home, keep on reading.Crispy Chicken Nuggets with Honey Mustard Sauce

For this recipe, you will need:
1.  Crispy garlic bits (optional)
2.  Seasoned bread crumbs
3.  Egg
4.  Chicken breast
5. Black pepper

For our dipping, we will need:
1.  Mayo
2.  Honey
3.  Yellow mustard

Let's begin.  First, get your chicken breasts.  You can buy whole chicken breasts or breast fillets at your local supermarket.  Remove any bone and cartilage then slice the breasts into bite-size pieces.  What I love about this recipe is that we are using pure chicken breast not like the ready-made nuggets with loads of fat, scraps from other parts of the chicken and even bone.  I believe they also have fillers/extenders like flour, et cetera.

Next, crack one egg then add the black pepper and crispy garlic bits.  Beat eggs until well combined.  You can also omit the garlic bits if you do not want them.  I love my chicken nuggets garlicky. :)

Next step, soak the chicken in the mixture.  Just let them sit there for a few minutes to absorb the flavor and make our chicken juicy and tender.

Coat the chicken with the seasoned bread crumbs.  I bought this ready-made breading which has seasoned fine flour and panko bread crumbs combined.  If you cannot find seasoned bread crumbs, you can use the regular all-purpose flour then add a bit of salt and pepper to taste and coat it in panko.

Coat all sides of the chicken with the bread crumbs then let it sit to dry out a bit.  You can also store the nuggets inside your fridge if you're planning to fry this later.

Next, heat oil in a pan then fry these babies until they are golden brown.  Chicken cooks very easily so do not over cook as the meat would become rubbery.  I like my chicken soft and juicy.

Once cooked, drain the chicken nuggets of any excess oil on a clean paper towel.  Set them aside as we make our dipping sauce.

In a clean container, mix one part honey, one part mustard, and two parts mayo.  For this recipe I used one tablespoon of mustard, one tablespoon of honey, and two tablespoons of mayo.  You can adjust the sauce to your liking.  Add more mustard if you want more tang or more honey for more sweetness.

Just mix all three ingredients together and that's it, that easy :)  You're honey mustard sauce is now ready.

  7. Great idea to flavor the eggwash with garlic and to let the chicken stand in the egg for awhile. That's something I can definitely apply to my own cooking. Sometimes when I like to incorporate a whole chicken into something kid friendly, I like making chicken nuggets or chicken fingers too with ground up whole chicken. Then I keep the bones for broth. Thanks for this recipe. I love it!

  18. Hi Angel, I miss reading your posts. Updates, pls., but only when you have the free time na. No pressure. Hehe. Wow, now I know how to make mayo-mustard sauce. Thanks a bunch! :)

Just a cooking tip. Try the rule of FEB (as in February for easy recall) next time (flour first, then egg wash, then breading) when making fried anything. A chef once told me about it. Mas kakapit daw yung breading sa meat at hindi agad masusunog pag ganun. :)
