Meet Our New (Chihuahua) Baby!

Good morning darlings! I'm hoping you're all having a fabulous weekend.  I'm so excited to share with you the newest addition to our pack!
Meet Our New (Miracle Blue Chihuahua) Baby!

So you all met our two doggies, Chiqui and Bullet.  I also have their picture on the left side of this blog.  This is Chiqui while she was pregnant, a bit fuzzy and grumpy, while Bullet was so sweet to offer her his food and gave her his space.  They still play together but Chiqui's a little too moody that Bullet usually leaves her alone.
Meet Our New (Miracle Blue Chihuahua) Baby!
It was Tuesday 1 or 2 a.m. when Chiqui showed signs of labor.  She was scratching her whelping box, pooed and peed and even vomited.  The husband and I pulled an all-nighter watching Chiqui.  Both first-time doggy parents, we searched the internet for all questions we have.  It was already 7 in the morning when the first puppy came out.  She did not make it.  She got suffocated with her neck, we assume, being stuck for too long.  Chiqui, a first-time mom, also did not remove the sac, either because she did not know how or she was too tired.  She fell asleep.  We tried and tried to revive the puppy but she was gone.  Just a few minutes later, the second puppy's coming out.  We decided to bring Chiqui to the vet this time.  At the vet, the doctor saw the dead pup and told us that Chiqui can do normal labor, we should just let her rest a bit and let her push on her own.  This time, the second pup was breech.  The doctors helped Chiqui while she cried in pain from the second pup.  It too came out dead.  We were devastated and asked the doctor what was the best thing to do.  There was another pup inside of her and the doctor injected oxytocin, a drug to help Chiqui contract so she can bring the puppy out much easier.  We waited....and waited...and waited.  The doctor said that if the puppy does not come out one hour after she injected the medicine, they will have to do an emergency C-section.  Thirty minutes passed and still no contractions.  Chiqui was too tired.  The doctor asked for my consent regarding C-section.  I gave it right away.  I wanted Chiqui to survive at that time.  I was not thinking of any puppies coming out alive.  I just wanted Chiqui to be safe.  We waited until the operation was done and was so happy that Chiqui made it, and there was a bonus too!  The last pup survived!  She too was breech and had we waited longer, she also would have died.  We were so happy both mommy and the baby are very much healthy.  That very same day, we brought them back home (the vet was only two or three blocks away).  It was the suggestion of the doctor because she too has another patient, a labrador who was having an abortion and is going to undergo an emergency C-section too.

Chiqui came home with her dextrose still attached.  The doctor gave me all the instructions on how to take care of them both, what medicines to give, and her contact number in case there was an emergency or we have any questions.  Chiqui and the pup immediately bonded.  Though Chiqui was not aware when the pup came out, she was still so attached to it.  The pup still needs help finding mommy's breasts but Chiqui was ever so patient to guide her and let her suck to her heart's content while she's recovering from the surgery.

Mommy Chiqui is the sweetest mom.  She lets her little puppy to snuggle and sleep beside her.

This is little Arwen at day two.  Ears and eyes still closed but she has gained a bit of weight.  She still sleeps most of the time.

Chiqui has also been super protective of her pup.  She does not want it to be out of her sight.  I guess mommy instincts are kicking in.  When we try to pick up Arwen, she immediately follows, and when we return it to her side, she will lick it as if removing our scent from the pup.  We also read that the pup does need all that licking that Chiqui does not only to clean her but to stimulate her eliminating functions.

Arwen now learned how to suck milk on her own.  She's one sucking machine.  We're giving Chiqui more food than usual as she is nursing.  They've now got a routine.  Chiqui will get her pup, move around as if preparing a nest then lay down and let her pup come to her and feed her.  After feeding, they will both go to sleep.

One time Chiqui was asleep, I borrowed Arwen for a little photo shoot.  Here's what she gave me! She's doing that Miley Cyrus pose.  Hahaha!
Meet Our New (Miracle Blue Chihuahua) Baby!
Meet our little Arwen.  She got her name from the husband's favorite Lord of the Rings character.  We're all hoping this little miracle grows up healthy and beautiful.  May she get the smartness of her dad and the sweetness and her mom :)  To chihuahua breeders out there, will she change her color or is she a true blue chihuahua?

  21. Hi There,
Thank you for sharing the knowledgeable blog with us I hope that you will post many more blog with us:-
Pug will happily spend much of the day snuggling on the sofa’”which, combined with the breed’s fondness for eating, makes obesity a real possibility. But the Pug is playful, sturdy, and lively, too, and owners can keep the breed fit with daily opportunities for moderate exercise, such as walks or play sessions in the yard.
